Our Story: How PurOtic Came About
Like many of our tried-and-true products, our dog ear cleaner PurOtic was born out of a necessity to help out Maximus, a black Labrador with floppy ears, prone to ear infections, but also obsessed with swimming in the ocean. Despite trying frequent ear cleanings with all the classic ear medications in the book, nothing was working. Maximus's veterinarian told Matt that an ear infection originates deep within the ear canal, therefore cleaning the dogs ear flap would do nothing to prevent future ear infections. So an expensive surgery was on the horizon unless Matt could figure out a way to deliver dog ear cleaner and ear medications directly to the opening of the ear canal. Maximus always resisted getting his ears cleaned which made it impossible to locate the ear canal of a dog with dark hairy ears.
In 2005, it was here where PurOtic would be born, and with it, Innovet Pet, itself. As a engineer by trade, Matt didn't want to just create an ear cleaning solution that targeted the opening of the ear canal, he also wanted to solve the issue of bacterial and yeast infections in smelly dog ears.
While that delivery solution to the ear canal would have been more than enough, Matt got his friend Dave to help use his biochemistry knowledge to create a natural formula for a ear cleaner for dogs that would also help prevent ear infections while avoiding the side effects that can come from a traditional dog ear cleaner that may use chemicals harsh on the ears, such as hydrogen peroxide and alcohol.
Another issue that they saw was the design flaw in common ear cleaners that didn't take into account the unique structure of the dog ear canal, which unlike human ears has a 90 degree turn halfway through it. Additionally common ear cleaners do nothing to stop you from accidentally using too much solution, not only causing you to waste money but also potentially exacerbating the ear issue.
By combining their engineering and biochemistry backgrounds, not only did Matt and Dave create a more effective and safer ear cleaning solution, they had created an easier, faster, and more effective way to get it deep in the ear canal. Soon after the PurOtic applicator was patented and Innovet Pet Products was born
With PurOtic, all you had to do is insert the safety silicon tip in your dog's ears, pull the trigger, and you're done.
We still can't believe how simple but effective it is! It finally gave Maximus the ear relief he had needed and he lived another 11 years with super clean ears! PurOtic takes the safety of natural homemade ear cleaning solutions and combines them with the strength you'd expect from prescription formulas.
